There is the musical definition - “the quality in a sound of being deep, full, and reverberating.”
There is the physics definition - “the reinforcement or prolongation of sound by the synchronous vibration of a neighboring object.”
And there is the spiritual definition - “the connection and amplification of like things through a common frequency.”
Each of these can coexist and overlap without issue. That’s the beauty of living in a multidimensional universe. You’ll notice some similarity between all three, but particularly between the physics and spiritual definitions. That third definition is my own. And it differs from the physics definition in that the physics definition is limited to the phenomena of sound. But quantum physics tells us that the entire universe--everything we experience, be it sound, sight, touch, smell, thought, or anything else--is made up of energy. And energy is nothing more than vibration. The spiritual definition takes into account all the experiences available in the universe, not just sound. So for the sake of this blog, we’ll be referring to the spiritual principle of resonance, not the scientific or harmonic definition.
If you want to see resonance in action, check out this great video of a tuning fork demonstration. In the video, the man emphasizes that the tuning forks are not connected in any way. But we know better. We know they are connected. They are connected by a common frequency.
Of course, human beings are not one note like a tuning fork. We are made up of an amalgam of frequencies all occurring simultaneously which are in a constant state of flux. Yes, the human body has been established as running at a base frequency of 62-68 Hz, but that does not and cannot account for the subtle frequencies of energy, like emotion and thought, which science has yet to adequately detect. Limiting the human experience to 62 Hz is like trying to limit an orchestra to one instrument or a symphony to one note. It is inadequate to explain and describe the full experience.
Knowing that we are a symphonic experience and not a singular note, the complexity of our resonating universe begins to unfold. At any given time we are encountering resonance on multiple levels--too many to count. In fact, they may be infinite. And as energy within and around us shifts and changes--we have a new thought, encounter a bad smell, experience a heart palpitation--our experience of resonance shifts and changes, too.
You can use your conscious understanding of resonance and awareness of your energy to manipulate or synthesize your experience of the world. In other words, if you don’t like something showing up in your life, change your vibration in order to stop resonating with it. The best way to do this is to introduce a new frequency to oppose or neutralize the old one rather than trying to suppress it, which will only put your awareness on it more (resonance) and strengthen it.
If you want more of something, actively focus on, engage with, and incorporate it in whatever ways are available to you in order to increase the resonance and experience more of it. This is the basis for the Law of Attraction. The Law of Attraction is just another name for resonance.
Think of these practices like fine-tuning your instrument. By making minute adjustments you create subtle changes in the sound (vibration) emitted which will resonate differently with the rest of the universe, allowing you to connect more or less with differing levels of energy in order to create the experience you most wish to have. This is the basis of shift. It is the same thing Abraham Hicks talks about when she talks about changing your “point of attraction.”
This very basic understanding underscores every human experience and spiritual teaching available. It cuts through the fog of confusing and often conflicting emotions and thoughts which shroud our lives allowing us to see to the heart, strike at the root, or get to the center of any given situation where we can actually change it. All too often, we can’t see the forest for the trees.
Everyone who reads my blog knows that I am a crystal healer and teacher. I often joke that I am a crystal junkie. Right now you may be wondering what resonance has to do with crystals. EVERYTHING. Resonance has everything to do with crystals just like it has everything to do with everything. But I would like to add that first and foremost, I am a student of crystals. And it is my work with crystals which has taught me this all-important principle. That, and the never-failing wisdom of my guides and higher self.
So start taking energetic inventory of your life. Where do you want to create change? Where do you want to see shift happen? How can you start applying your understanding of the spiritual principle of resonance in order to cooperate with universal energy and co-create the life you desire? Remember, start small. Small changes create big waves (vibration!). Minute adjustments and subtle shifts will produce profound results because of the amplifying effect of resonance. Which is really a whole other blog entirely. Guess I know what I’m writing next week!
